COLUMBUS — Ohio State second-year defensive end Omari Abor underwent surgery for an undisclosed injury Tuesday, head coach Ryan Day confirmed Wednesday afternoon.

“He did have a procedure,” Day said. “It’s going to be at least a couple months before he’s back.”

Abor shared on social media Tuesday that the “surgery went good.”

Abor added: “Preciated all the prayers from y’all.”

Day said the Buckeyes were at “full strength” ahead of training camp. Abor was seen practicing last Thursday on the first day of camp. Since, Ohio State has had five additional practices, all of which were closed to the media.

Abor redshirted his freshman year at Ohio State after arriving last June. A knee injury limited him to just eight snaps, all of them against Arkansas State, according to Pro Football Focus.

Abor put on 19 pounds between the start of last season and this year’s spring ball. He was up to 268 pounds at 6-foot-3. Since, however, he’s dropped 10 pounds.

Abor was a top-100 prospect in the 2022 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He helped Duncanville High School get to the 6A Texas state title game as a senior. Abor erupted for seven tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks against Galena Park North Shore in that championship outing. The week before that, he forced a fumble and returned it for six versus Southlake Carroll.

Since arriving at Ohio State, Abor has been competing for snaps in longtime defensive line coach Larry Johnson’s extensive rotation. His pursuit of those snaps is now on pause.
