COLUMBUS — The Ohio State vs. Penn State matchup on Nov. 1 doesn’t have nearly the same ramifications it was expected to have earlier this season.

The Buckeyes have held up their end of the bargain. They’re 7-0 and currently the top team in the country according to the AP Top 25. But Penn State hasn’t — at all. The Nittany Lions are the most disappointing team in college football, entering November at 3-4 overall after four straight losses. They’ve even fired now-former head coach James Franklin.

But the networks have made their decision to keep the once-highly anticipated matchup between the Buckeyes and Nittany Lions in the Big Ten’s premier television window. They’ll face off inside the Horseshoe at Noon on Nov. 1. FOX will have the broadcast with Gus Johnson, Joel Klatt and Jenny Taft on the call.

Both Ohio State and Penn State are idle this week after their last games. The Buckeyes went on the road and beat Wisconsin in shutout fashion, a 34-0 trouncing. Penn State is coming off a 25-24 loss at Iowa in which neither team passed for more than 100 yards. The Nittany Lions are on their backup quarterback, Ohio native Ethan Grunkemeyer, after Drew Allar suffered a season-ending injury in the Oct. 11 loss to Northwestern at home.

The shine is off this Ohio State vs. Penn State game from a national perspective. But it means a lot for the two programs and the Big Ten. So FOX is choosing to keep it in its premier television window. The time and TV channel are now set for this matchup between two of the Big Ten’s most popular brands.
