<h2><strong>Ohio State Recruiting Question of the Day</strong></h2>
<p>In case you missed it on Sunday, Ohio State lost a commitment as Avon, Ind., running back <a href="https://lettermenrow.com/ohio-state-football-recruiting/ohio-state-sampson-james-decommits-from-buckeyes/">Sampson James</a> shocked the world by flipping to the Indiana Hoosiers just hours after visiting Columbus.</p>
<p>After losing James, <a href="https://lettermenrow.com/meet-the-commitments/ohio-state-buckeyes-football-2019-commits/">Ohio State’s 2019 commitment</a> list shrunk to 14 players. But more important is that the running back position itself becomes a position of need once again for Ohio State with less than three months to the first signing day period.</p>
<p>Or does it?</p>
<p>That’s the Recruiting Question of the Day.</p>

<p>First of all, thank you for the question, Tony.</p>
<p>Second of all, I personally believe it’s absolutely imperative for Ohio State to complement Steele Chambers and add another running back to the Class of 2019.</p>
<p>Look at the Buckeyes roster. It’s very likely Mike Weber leaves Ohio State after the season, and there is a sense that J.K. Dobbins could do the same after the 2019 season. Behind that duo right now is Master Teague III and Brian Snead. Currently, though, there is uncertainty around Snead’s status and future. He’s been practicing with the team, but Urban Meyer and Ohio State remain mum on the nature or length of the disciplinary action he’s facing.</p>

<p>If for any reason Snead doesn’t return to Ohio State as a full-time member of the football team, next season and beyond can get pretty weird. I know Steele Chambers is a really good high school running back and that he’ll start his Buckeyes career at tailback, but I can’t help but see Jerome Baker-type skills when I see him on film. I just think he’s likely to finish his college career on defense.</p>
<p><a href="https://lettermenrow.com/ohio-state-football-recruiting/ohio-state-recruiting-update-noah-cain-darrion-henry-visit/">Ohio State is chasing Noah Cain</a>, as we talked about earlier this week. The Buckeyes are also <a href="https://lettermenrow.com/ohio-state-football-recruiting/ohio-state-recruiting-deondrick-glass-lorenzo-styles-jj-mccarthy-buckeyes-updates/">likely to host Deondrick Glass</a>, a 4-star running back from Texas, at some point this season for an official visit. On Thursday, they offered another 2019 running back, Miami commit <a href="https://247sports.com/Player/Marcus-Crowley-45573370/">Marcus Crowley</a>, a former teammate of Shaun Wade and Tyreke Johnson at Jacksonville (Fla.) Trinity Christian.</p>
<p>It’s clear the Buckeyes see a need at tailback. I do too. I don’t see a loaded running backs room as I look at the roster’s current makeup. The question really isn’t whether or not it is crucial to get one, but whether or not they have the inside track to land any of the players they’re pursuing.</p>
