Ohio State to meet Wednesday about Urban Meyer

One way or another, Ohio State fans will soon learn the fate of Urban Meyer. The school announced Monday that the Board of Trustees will meet on Wednesday to discuss the findings of the investigation, though the final decision will ultimately belong to president Michael Drake.

On Monday, investigators spoke with the Board of Trustees about what they found in their research into the matter. However, no deliberations, discussions or decisions were made during that session, which was held to ensure board members were prepared for Wednesday’s meeting.

Possible Meyer punishment floated

The Columbus Dispatch posted a comprehensive look at what’s to come, but part of the story also included sourced claims that the board could recommend to Drake that Meyer could be suspended. It also noted that the suspension could apparently be backdated to include Meyer’s current absence from the team.

Here’s part of what the Dispatch had to say:

Two sources connected to the investigation said the likely recommendation to university President Michael V. Drake is a suspension for Meyer. Drake and the board also could opt for a “time served” punishment since Meyer has been removed from football activities for more than two weeks.

Ohio State spokesman Chris Davey did not dispute what the sources told The Dispatch, but he called their statements “reckless.”

Buckeyes open at No. 5 in AP Top 25

The preseason AP poll was released Monday, and with the conclusion to the Urban Meyer investigation looming, Ohio State found itself inside the top 5 for the third time in the last four seasons.

The Buckeyes earned the No. 5 spot in the first edition of the rankings this season, sitting behind juggernauts Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, and Big Ten foe Wisconsin.

Another Black Stripe off

Ohio State removed another black stripe on Monday, with defensive back Tyreke Smith being the next to claim the honor.

“We’ve got a stripe to get off,” director of player development Ryan Stamper said in a school video. “This man busts his butt on [special teams].”
