Injured for Senior Bowl, Trey Sermon expects to be ready for Pro Day
Former Ohio State running back Trey Sermon was certainly impressive in his final four games for the Buckeyes.
Now, he has to impress NFL scouts. Sermon won’t be able to do that at the Senior Bowl this week due to the injury he suffered during the national championship loss to Alabama, but he’ll be good to go in time for the Buckeyes Pro Day.
“Yes, I’ll be ready to go come the Pro Day,” Sermon told NFL Network’s Andrew Siciliano at the Senior Bowl. “Just show them my speed. I definitely want to run a good 40 [yard dash], let them know that I’m still a great receiving back. I can run great routes. I can catch out of the backfield very well. Those are some of the things that I’m excited to show the teams once the pro day comes up.”
Sermon boosted his draft stock with a pair of incredible performances in the postseason. He’s going to try boosting it even more this spring in front of the NFL scouts.
Buckeyes narrowing focus for 2022 running back recruiting
Ohio State has a loaded backfield for the foreseeable future. But that won’t stop the Buckeyes from recruiting some of the best running backs in the country in the class of 2022. Although it’s not yet known if the Buckeyes will take one or two backs in that class, there are plenty of prospective names to know.
Lettermen Row’s Birm has more on who the Buckeyes could target:
Still, patient or not, there’s a couple of young guys who have been standing out for the Buckeyes over these last few months and continue to do so. That list includes Memphis (Tenn.) 4-star Dallan Hayden, Georgia’s Damari Alston and Pennsylvania’s Nick Singleton. On the outside of that top group there are names like Terrance Gibbs from Winter Park (Fla.), Kaytron Allen down at the IMG Academy in Brandenton (Fla.) and Cincinnati’s Gi’Bran Payne, though he has not yet been offered by Ohio State.

Former Ohio State quarterback enters transfer portal, joins Birminology
After transferring from the Buckeyes program in January of 2019, Tate Martell is on the move again and officially entering the NCAA transfer portal. He’s leaving the University of Miami with the hope of finding a new place for his football future, a final place for one last push toward the fulfillment of the lofty expectations that have followed Martell since he was a high school freshman.

Through plenty of drama, Tate Martell has insisted he just wanted to play football, to be the quarterback he believes he can be. So now he’s trying to do that again, and hopes to do it without the theatrics, without the drama and without the hype. Martell had to hit rock-bottom in order to right the direction he’s heading. Now he’s eager to put the new, better version of himself forward for college coaches to see. He admits fully that he’s not handled the adversity he’s faced well enough.
What would Martell say to a younger version of himself? What does his daily grind look like now that he’s preparing for another chance to play quarterback? What would he think about playing a different position? The former three-time state champ and national Gatorade Player of the Year joined Birminology with Lettermen Row’s Jeremy Birmingham to talk about those things and more.
