Eight Buckeyes land on AP All-America teams
Another day, another batch of all-American awards dominated by Ohio State.
The Buckeyes had no players named first-team All-American by the Associated Press. But the AP did name a total of eight Buckeyes to the second- and third-team All-American teams, the most of any school in the country.
Tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere, guard Thayer Munford, wide receiver Garrett Wilson, wide receiver Chris Olave, defensive tackle Haskell Garrett and kicker Noah Ruggles were all named to the second-team. Quarterback C.J. Stroud and wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba were named third-teamers.
Ohio State didn’t achieve its ultimate goal of a national title this year. But plenty of Buckeyes are being recognized for their incredible season.
Lettermen Live hosted by Roosters
Last week, the Lettermen Row crew took a dive into the wild coaching carousel and what to expect during a crazy offseason. This week, the crew is back to break down the Jim Knowles hiring and what the Ohio State record-breaking hiring means for the Buckeyes.
Lettermen Row senior writer Austin Ward is joined by former Ohio State quarterback Justin Zwick, former Buckeyes linebacker Bobby Carpenter, Nicole Cox of Roosters and Lettermen Row director of recruiting Jeremy Birmingham on the latest episode of Lettermen Live hosted by Roosters.
But the Knowles hiring is certainly not all that the all-star unit covered on Monday.
Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud finished fourth in the Heisman Trophy, which was announced on Saturday night. And Stroud had to grind his way through some Michigan trash talk from former Wolverines Heisman winner and current ESPN analyst Desmond Howard. So, Nicole and the guys took some time to address the Michigan trash talk.
As always, Lettermen Live is hosted by Roosters on Olentangy River Road in Columbus.
Buckeyes hoops move up in latest AP Poll
Ohio State is officially rolling.
After four straight wins, including a takedown of then-No. 1 Duke, a road win in conference play and a home victory over a ranked Wisconsin team, the Buckeyes seem to be getting hot at a good time.

But the toughest challenge might be ahead of them. They’ll face Kentucky in Las Vegas on Saturday after not having a mid-week game. And they’ll do so as the No. 15 team in the country, up six spots from last week’s standings.
Kentucky is No. 21 after being upset by an unranked Notre Dame team over the weekend.
Baylor moved into the top spot after staying unbeaten. Duke, Purdue, UCLA and Gonzaga rounded out the top five. Three Big Ten teams are currently ranked with just a few games left until league play starts.
For the Buckeyes, they’re playing well as of late thanks to a decrease in turnovers, offensive momentum and superstar forward E.J. Liddell’s recent outbursts.
AP Top 5 (Dec. 13)
- Baylor (61 first-place votes)
- Duke
- Purdue
- UCLA
- Gonzaga
