Buckeyes walk-on wide receiver enters transfer portal

Ohio State walk-on wide receiver Sam Wiglusz entered the transfer portal Tuesday.

Wiglusz appeared in just four games over his Buckeyes career, but he certainly meant more to the program than his on-field stats or production could show.

He has the respect of the locker room and was a leader at Ohio State.

“I’ve got a tremendous amount of respect for Sam,” Ohio State coach Ryan Day said last week. “He comes to work every day. It’s tough. He’s a good receiver. His attitude is excellent. I mean, he’s somebody that I think some of the other receivers go to a little bit just for advice on things. He’s very smart. He is similar to [former Ohio State walk-on receiver] C.J. Saunders, from that same mold of coming in as a walk on kind of an H receiver. Really good in short areas, quick, reliable, tough and really good makeup and attitude. We’re very fortunate to have him as a Buckeye.”

Wiglusz wants to play football. So the Buckeyes are going to be losing him. He entered the transfer portal on Tuesday with one year to find a role elsewhere.

New edition of Tim May Podcast

Spring practice might be over, but there’s still plenty of Ohio State discussions to be had. Tim May is back with another edition of his podcast to analyze all of it.

He is joined by Lettermen Row senior writer Austin Ward to further discuss the the Ohio State spring game and what we learned coming out of the annual scrimmage. The two long-time writers who cover the Buckeyes swap storylines they are intrigued by heading into summer workouts.

Who broke out in the spring game? Which Buckeyes are ready to take the next step forward? Is Ohio State capable of hoisting the national championship trophy in January — or is it too early to tell?

That conversations with Tim and Austin make this edition of The Tim May Podcast a must-listen episode. And it’s not just an Ohio State football discussion this week. It’s about where the Buckeyes land in the national landscape of college football.

You will not want to miss that and plenty more Buckeyes news and analysis from the past and in another edition of the Tim May Podcast as spring practice wraps up.

Former Buckeyes cornerback Sevyn Banks transferring to LSU

After spending three months in the transfer portal following his departure from Ohio State, Sevyn Banks has committed to play his final year of eligibility at LSU, according to On3.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound defensive back appeared in 22 games for the Buckeyes during his four years in Columbus. Banks totaled 45 tackles and 2 interceptions for his career.

Banks began to break out for Ohio State early in his career. He started on the opposite side of Shaun Wade during the 2020 season and was projected to be the next in a long line of first-round cornerbacks at Ohio State during the 2021 year. But then the injuries hit. He battled through them, fighting to get on the field and eventually barely seeing playing time for the Buckeyes last year.

He tried to make a comeback during last season after an injury early in the campaign. He was set on returning midway through the year to make an impact.
