Buckeyes want reps for young quarterbacks in spring game

The Ohio State quarterback depth chart seems to be as settled as it can be.

C.J. Stroud is at the top, the starter for the Buckeyes and a Heisman Trophy favorite entering the summer. Kyle McCord is the second-year backup with starting experience at Ohio State. And Devin Brown is the true freshman just beginning to get his feet wet in the program.

Stroud doesn’t need many game reps in the spring game Saturday. But behind him? McCord and Brown could use as many reps as possible.

“We’ll quickly start to roll those other guys and try to make it as equal as we can, just rolling them and trying to get as many reps as possible,” Ohio State coach Ryan Day said. And the more reps they get under their belt, the better — especially in the stadium.”

Don’t expect a lot of C.J. Stroud in the spring game Saturday. As for the Buckeyes backup quarterbacks? They’ll have plenty of time to showcase their skills throughout the afternoon.

Practice Report as Buckeyes wind down spring practice

Ohio State is nearly finished with its 15 spring practices. But that certainly doesn’t mean there aren’t storylines everywhere as the spring game arrives.

Lettermen Row senior writer Austin Ward is joined by staffers Spencer Holbrook and Tim May for a jam-packed discussion about the Buckeyes as the spring practice sessions wind down and the spring game draws near. After hearing from every position group at Ohio State this spring, there was so much to break down after Ryan Day’s spring wrap-up press conference.

What were the biggest takeaways from the media session at Ohio State head coach Ryan Day on Friday? Who is making the most progress as spring ends? Which underrated Buckeyes player will be a breakout star of the spring game? And what be the expectations for the ‘safety-driven’ defense on Saturday in a packed Horseshoe?

ICYMI: Urban Meyer discusses Dwayne Haskins life, legacy at Ohio State

Tim May is back with an edition of his podcast to remember the special life of Dwayne Haskins.

Tim is joined by legendary former Ohio State coach Urban Meyer this week. Meyer recruited Dwayne Haskins to flip from Maryland and choose Ohio State. Haskins was the quarterback for Meyer in 2018, when the Buckeyes went 13-1, won the Big Ten championship and capped off the season with a Rose Bowl victory over Washington.

Haskins was incredible that season, rewriting the Buckeyes record books and setting a new standard for quarterback play at Ohio State. So Tim and Urban certainly had plenty of stories to share about Haskins career, his life and his personality that made him so special inside the Ohio State program.

Tim is also joined by Lettermen Row senior writer Austin Ward to further discuss the importance of Haskins at Ohio State and what he meant to the Buckeyes. The two long-time writers who cover the Buckeyes swap stories about Haskins and his phenomenal 2018 season.
