Back to the Battle Series for OU softball

Not sure that could have worked out better for OU softball. But then again, not sure what else you could have expected for OU softball.
The two exhibitions are in the books. It’s back to the Battle Series the rest of the way to close out fall ball. The next installment 6:30 Friday at Love’s Field.
OU traveled to East Texas A&M last week and brought Oklahoma Christian to Norman earlier this week. Combined score? Yep, 57-0. It was 22-0 last week and 35-0 on Wednesday evening.
Wednesday featured a single-game fall ball record with 2,837 fans in attendance. OU softball simply never slows down.

Some of the best of the best from head coach Patty Gasso.
Thoughts on the pitching staff?
I think it’s outstanding. They all give different looks. They’re all very confident. It’s just that iron sharpens iron thing. If somebody throws well, the next one up is like, ‘Okay, I see what I got to do.’ Then the next one, I was like, ‘Okay, I got to be better.’ I think that’s happening throughout this team. On pitching staff, we’ve got two great catchers working against each other, I’ve got a freshman that’s working around the infield, playing all positions. Alyssa Parker was out tonight, and I really wanted to see her get her opportunities, and she’s just has a little bit of a flu. But I just, I’m telling you that this is an extremely balanced offense. It’s strong. It hits the ball hard. We can bunt. You can see the speed. I don’t think I’ve ever seen three triples in consecutive order before. And I’m just, my hands are down. I’m not even… they’re seeing it, and they’re going and they know how to run well. So it’s a very balanced team with some really pretty elite athletes.
Biggest improvement from start of fall to now?
I think we’re starting to get better now. They’re hitting a lot more, spending time with JT. They’re figuring out their swing. There’s just a chase going on here. Everybody is chasing each other, and so you better run fast, or someone’s going to pass you, someone’s going to get you. So that’s what I have felt, is the power, the speed. There’s still things we gotta learn as a team, probably primarily more base running and like signal calling, but it’s just a very balanced group
How has a restful offseason helped Ella Parker:
Rest is what she has needed. And I talk to her probably every couple of innings just to ask how she’s feeling. There are times when she’ll say, ‘Yeah, it’s OK.’ And then I’m like, you’re done, who’s next? So I don’t want to put her in those positions where she’s limping. We really need her. I’m letting her play a little bit of the outfield. She’s really with her leg feeling better she can run well. She can run well. And she has worked on her overhand throw as well so she’s a viable option in the outfield if needed. Not just a DP. So again, lots of moving parts that can change on you all the time.
