Brent Venables addresses John Mateer's surgery, does not provide timeline on return

It's still unclear when OU quarterback John Mateer will return for the Sooners. Mateer had surgery on his throwing hand in Los Angeles on Wednesday and returned to Norman on Thursday. The Washington State transfer posted on X on Thursday, saying the surgery was successful. But when asked on Thursday if the timeline for his return was clearer, coach Brent Venables declined to provide an update.
