Brent Venables says OU would 'just love an invitation' to College Football Playoff

OU head coach Brent Venables hasn’t politicked one bit during this month. Not one word from Venables about OU and the College Football Playoff.

Has never cared about the rankings. Always said – hey, just focus on what you can control. Well, OU did that.

It wasn’t pretty, it got the job done in a 17-13 win against visiting LSU on Saturday evening. OU is now 10-2 overall and 6-2 in the SEC.

At No. 8 in the CFP rankings, does OU deserve a home playoff game?

You’re still asking the wrong guy.

“I don’t even know what that means,” Venables said. “I’d just love an invitation. I don’t care if it’s on the road. I say I don’t care – of course, I would love for it to be here. I’ve spent no time looking at that. I don’t know. They’re not listening to me. There’s plenty of things for them to look at to make the decisions they make. I’m sure it’s not easy. Wherever they ask to play, we’ll show up.”

OU trailed 10-3 against LSU in the second half before rallying for the victory. Quarterback John Mateer threw three interceptions before rallying himself. It was Mateer with the two touchdown passes in the second half.

From there? Yep, time for the OU defense. Safety Peyton Bowen, who earlier had an interception in the end zone, sealed it once and for all with a pass breakup on fourth-and-two from the OU 29 yard line with under two minutes to go.

OU has to sit and wait and watch. The Sooners will not be in Atlanta for the SEC championship. They’ll await their fate next Sunday (Dec. 7) for the CFP Selection Show.

It was absolutely a November to Remember for OU fans. Now? It’s about finding out what’s next on this crazy ride for Team 131.
