Crimson Countdown: No. 10 Kip Lewis

The Crimson Countdown is officially on for the 2025 Oklahoma football season. Everybody wants to forget about 2024 and move forward.
Head coach Brent Venables and staff have attempted to do that. New face calling the offense (Ben Arbuckle). Venables calling the defense, it’s now or never for this regime at OU in the SEC. No beating around the bush.
Every day as we get closer to kickoff, SoonerScoop.com will count down the days with you. Starting with No. 99 and working our way to No. 0, we’ll be there every step of the way.
2024 stats:
Played in all 13 games, starting 12 at weakside linebacker, totaling 65 tackles, four tackles for loss, two interceptions (both interceptions returned for touchdowns), one pass breakup and one QB hurry

2025 outlook:
Perhaps no returning player on the Oklahoma roster made more of an impact in big moments than junior linebacker Kip Lewis. Simply put: Lewis always seems to be finding a way to be around the football. A good characteristic for the fourth-year linebacker, heading into the 2025 season, in what is expected to be solidified as a starting role.
No one will ever claim the Carthage (Texas) High product is the most outspoken leader on the the Sooners defense but he most certainly is expected to hold a large presence in the Venables defense.
2025 linebacker outlook:
OU should feel pretty strong about its group, at least initially. It feels like a quality three guys going for two spots. And then whoever doesn’t start between Kobie McKinzie, Kip Lewis and Sammy Omosigho, will see plenty of time in the rotation. The key will be to develop just a little more depth. That’s what preseason camp has all been about. You can trust and feel confident with this trio but beyond that? It’s when you start to wonder. Trying to stay fresh and stay healthy is imperative in 2025.
