The Crimson Countdown is officially on for the 2025 Oklahoma football season. Everybody wants to forget about 2024 and move forward.

Head coach Brent Venables and staff have attempted to do that. New face calling the offense (Ben Arbuckle). Venables calling the defense, it’s now or never for this regime at OU in the SEC. No beating around the bush.

Every day as we get closer to kickoff, SoonerScoop.com will count down the days with you. Starting with No. 99 and working our way to No. 0, we’ll be there every step of the way.

Crimson Countdown: No. 34 Adepoju Adebawore

2024 stats: Played in 10 games, four tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, 1.0 sack

2025 outlook:

Is it now or never or Adebawore? That sounds sort of harsh, but when you’re in the third season, it’s about that time.

Sure, it doesn’t feel incredibly fair to judge Adebawore because of the injuries. But eventually, that has to go away.

And 2025 is the perfect time to make that happen. He continues to develop, even if the production hasn’t been there to show for it.

The door is open for Adebawore to become a name. That second defensive end position is up for grabs among a bunch of guys. All worthy, but one of them is going to need to make the leap.

Adebawore could be that guy. You could argue he should be that guy. Camp is going to be huge to get an idea of where he stands.

2025 defensive end outlook

You know OU has a superstar on its hands in R Mason Thomas. And you know OU has some young guys looking to make a splash. The big thing? Sooners have to find that second guy to go with Thomas. There are a lot of candidates, but no easy favorite as we hit the summer. Miguel Chavis has done a nice job of building up the room. Now, though, everybody needs to go to that next level. It cannot be about being raw and having potential in 2025. This season must be about the production that is coming along with everything.
