The Crimson Countdown is officially on for the 2025 Oklahoma football season. Everybody wants to forget about 2024 and move forward.

Head coach Brent Venables and staff have attempted to do that. New face calling the offense (Ben Arbuckle). Venables calling the defense, it’s now or never for this regime at OU in the SEC. No beating around the bush.

Every day as we get closer to kickoff, SoonerScoop.com will count down the days with you. Starting with No. 99 and working our way to No. 0, we’ll be there every step of the way.

Crimson Countdown: No. 56 Gracen Halton

2024 stats: Played in 13 games, starting in three games, totaling 30 tackles, six tackles for loss and five sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, three QB hurries and a safety.

2025 outlook:

The senior defensive tackle has done nothing but improve each season under defensive tackles coach Todd Bates. Heading into the year following his most productive season in a Sooners uniform, registering 30 tackles and the second most sacks on the team (5) and the fourth most tackles for loss (6). He earned SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week honors following a career-high two tackles for loss vs. Houston, forcing a game-sealing safety in the fourth quarter.

If Oklahoma’s defensive line is to be tabbed as the top unit on the defensive side of the ball, look no further than Halton as one of the reasons why. He recorded at least one tackle for loss in four games, including multiple tackles in a game nine times .

He returns as a key contributor for Todd Bates’ interior group not just on the field but off the field as a leader. Halton turned heads last season, bursting onto the scene perhaps as a bit of an unknown, and is expected to make another jump as a senior this season.

2025 defensive tackle outlook:

The biggest storyline of the post-spring portal window was with David Stone. Entering on a Friday night and removing himself two days later by Sunday afternoon. With Stone locked up, you’ve got a quartet that should be incredibly impressive. Damonic Williams and Gracen Halton have been around the block a time or two. And here comes Stone along with Jayden Jackson to grow up and become monsters in the middle. OU has some depth around them as well, like adding Ricky Lolohea, but this group is going to be about what this foursome does. How good they can become? And how quickly it all happens
