The Crimson Countdown is officially on for the 2024 Oklahoma football season. Fans have been waiting for what feels like forever with this one. The Sooners are finally and officially joining the SEC.

The 2023 season was a rebound one for head coach Brent Venables, getting the program back to its standard. OU went 10-3 in Venables’ second season, now it’s time for year No. 3.

Every day as we get closer to kickoff, SoonerScoop.com will count down the days with you. Starting with No. 99 and working our way to No. 0, we’ll be there every step of the way.

Crimson Countdown: No. 85 Trey Brown

2023 stats: Did not play, redshirt.

2024 outlook:

No, not that Tre Brown. Not the one from Tulsa Union who made the NFL. No, this Trey Brown is a redshirt wide receiver from Nashville, Tenn.

A walk-on who made his decision rather quickly. Even before his senior season, he was locked in that he wanted to come to Norman and be a Sooner.

He got his moment to shine in the Red-White spring game, where Brown had one of the most explosive plays of the game.

Just goes to show about being ready whenever your number is called. You shouldn’t expect Brown’s number to be called, but he’ll provide some quality depth and quality practice work.

2024 wide receiver outlook

There’s no offensive position with more depth than wide receiver. While the Sooners lose leading receiver Drake Stoops to the NFL, they return everyone else. Jalil Farooq and Andrel Anthony are both back, but both missed most of the spring with injuries. Nic Anderson, who led the team in touchdowns last season, is also back. And Jayden Gibson looks to have a bigger role next year after a strong spring. But the X factor for the Sooners might be Purdue transfer Deion Burks, who showed everyone he might be the best weapon OU has during the Spring Game.
