To say 2024 didn’t go the way OU and Seth Littrell hoped for is, obviously, a massive understatement.

Honestly, it couldn’t have gone much worse. Littrell was brought in as offensive coordinator for the Sooners and expectations were high.

Production, however, was not. OU had issues across the board and appeared inept before Littrell was relieved of his duties seven games into the season. The final one a rough watch for all involved in a 35-9 blowout home loss to South Carolina.

Littrell stayed out of the limelight the rest of the 2024 season, refusing and declining to comment on his time in Norman. He has a new role with a familiar face in 2025.

Littrell is an offensive analyst at Tennessee under head coach and former teammate Josh Heupel.

“For Seth, somebody that I’ve played with, got great trust in,” said Heupel at SEC Media Days on Tuesday. “He’s the kind of guy that’s going to be clear in his communication to me. His experience as a head coach is another tool that he brings to us. He’s had elite offenses with great players, done it at an extremely high level.

“His knowledge, expertise, his understanding of some of the things that we do offensively and the ability to bring some creative things that are maybe good additions to what we’re doing. Seth has been great for us since he got there in February, and we expect him to be a big part of what we’re doing.”

Littrell and Heupel were teammates on the OU 2000 national championship team. Tennessee, of course, has had its own offensive issues since the end of the 2024 season.

Out the door went former quarterback Nico Iamaleava to UCLA. And Heupel is hoping Littrell can help be part of the brain trust that can keep the Vols offense humming.

Tennessee defeated OU in Norman last season. The Sooners head to Knoxville this time around.
