Oklahoma senior quarterback Dillon Gabriel is the first Sooner to appear on one of the watch lists. Gabriel is on the Maxwell Award watch list, which is given to the best player in college football. The former UCF quarterback enters what many anticipate will be his final college football season with high expectations. Last year, Gabriel threw for 3,168 yards, 25 touchdowns and six interceptions. Gabriel will have to improve those numbers by significant margin if he wants to take home the Maxwell.

The last Sooner to win the Maxwell was Baker Mayfield in 2017. Mayfield is one of only three Sooners to win the award, joining wide receiver Tommy McDonald in 1956 and quarterback Jason White in 2004.
