OU defensive end R Mason Thomas and punter Grayson Miller both earned SEC honors this week after Oklahoma’s 24-17 win over Auburn. Thomas was named a co-Defensive Lineman Player of the Week, while Miller was the Special Teams Player of the Week in the conference.

Thomas was phenomenal for the Sooners. After missing the first half due to a targeting suspension, Thomas was a force in the second half. He totaled two sacks, including the game-sealing one that resulted in a safety.

“It says a lot,” coach Brent Venables said of Thomas. “Probably not an easy thing to do, never experienced it myself. Certainly players in that scenario, I think it’s hard to get into the rhythm most of the time. I think … look at it any other way, there is something to that. It says a lot about him, his skillset, his ability and his maturity to stay ready for the moment.”

Miller was also stellar for the Sooners. He averaged 54.4 yards per punt on five punts. He also had a 66-yard punt that pinned Auburn inside the 5-yard line. Miller now leads the country in punt yardage average at 51 yards per punt.

“Grayson Miller, I don’t know what his average is since he took over a couple of weeks ago, but five punts for just south of 55 yards a punt,” Venables said. “And what a huge impact that had, from a field position standpoint, had in the game.”
