OU basketball head coach Porter Moser kept saying Monday afternoon the roster was set. The Sooners were done looking for the 2023-24 season.

Oklahoma had one scholarship left, so was Moser stashing it away again? Nope. The final piece to this season’s puzzle is in.

Former Houston Christian guard Maks Klanjscek will be headed to OU for his final season, OU announced Wednesday afternoon.

“Excited to add Maks to our program,” said Moser. “He is an experienced guard who is a high-level shooter and ball handler. I look forward to him joining us in the fall.”

This will be Klanjscek’s fifth stop in five years. Going from Kansas City to Salt Lake City to Maine to Houston to Norman. Whew, take a breath.

Klanjscek spent last season at Houston Christian, starting all 32 contests during the 2022-23 slate. He averaged 15.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.1 steals per outing.

The Ljubljana, Slovenia, product, tallied 10-plus points in 22 games and averaged 23.1 points per outing over his final 10 contests. Klanjscek shot 39.9% (155-388) from the field, 35.2% (69-196) from three and 79.4% (100-126) from the free throw line.

OU summer outlook

“I think this summer we were establishing a work ethic, a pace and how we want to play,” said Moser on Monday afternoon “I’m really looking at this faster pace. That’s the new normal. I don’t want it to be where it has to be all new guys, and you get retention. We had a couple of guys who we didn’t retain.

“There’s a lot that’s involved in retaining players these days, as we all know. These guys this summer, it’s been one of effort, togetherness and just setting the tone for how hard we’re going to play.”

Klanjscek obviously brings a lot of experience and is the third transfer who will be a super senior for OU this upcoming season.
