OU announces attendees for SEC Media Days: John Mateer, R Mason Thomas, Robert Spears-Jennings

OU has announced which players will attend SEC Media Days on July 16 in Atlanta.
Quarterback John Mateer, defensive end R Mason Thomas and safety Robert Spears-Jennings will represent the Sooners this year. None of those three should come as a surprise, as they are each expected to play major roles this upcoming season. Coach Brent Venables will also speak with the media at 1:45 p.m. CT on SEC Network.
Last year, OU was represented by quarterback Jackson Arnold, linebacker Danny Stutsman and safety Billy Bowman. Stutsman and Bowman are now in the NFL. And Arnold will be back at media days, but this time representing Auburn.
The Sooners are entering 2025 with mixed expectations. With a new offensive coordinator in Ben Arbuckle, quarterback in Mateer and Venables taking over defensive coordinator duties, it makes for a big year for the program.

Right now, most oddsmakers have OUβs win total set for 7. Some believe Oklahoma could be a dark horse to make the College Football Playoff. Others believe it could be another tough season for the Sooners. OU struggled in its first season in the SEC, going 6-7 in 2024.
Itβs hoping to turn things around in Venablesβ fourth year at the helm.
βYou knew the conference was going to strain you from the depth of what youβre going to see week-in and week-out,β Venables said SEC Spring Meetings in Destin in May. βSome of the things that were unforeseen. Ten different offensive line starting lineups and the plethora of injuries, mainly on offense, but on both sides of the ball. How to manage that and teach your players how to keep fighting. And then again, even though you donβt have the wins and the success to necessarily show for it, a lot of guys got a lot better through that. Guys getting dropped into fish grease maybe before youβd like them to. But that baptism, if you will, will help everybody get better. And help create more competitive depth and experience, which is going to help us.β
