OU football earns commitment from Matthew Nelson

Numerous social media posts from several different recruits let everybody know it was a pretty dang good weekend for OU football. So the only question became who would be that initial commitment?
Matthew Nelson wanted the honor. The Bryant (Ark.) High EDGE announced his commitment to the Sooners on Sunday evening.
You could sort of see this one coming. In fact, SoonerScoop attempted to get you prepared for it, putting Nelson at No. 1 most likely to commit heading into the weekend.
Nelson was back to OU for the second time in as many weeks. The work had been put in by head coach Brent Venables and defensive ends coach Miguel Chavis. It was just about wrapping it up.
And, of course, OU has had a little help along the way. Nelson is teammates with OU linebacker commitment Jakore Smith.

Nelson has not been evaluated by On3, ESPN or 247. He had previously earned a three-star (5.7) ranking from Rivals.
OU fans know this is about to be a huge month on the trail. Or better put, it needs to be a huge month for Venables. OU has been waiting, lurking in the background. June is expected to be the time to strike.
Nelson visited last week and camped for the Sooners. This time? It was official visit weekend. Again, the countdown was on. And OU closed the show in style.
Nelson becomes the first to pledge. Now we’ll see who joins him from this point forward.
*Stay tuned to SoonerScoop for all the updates coming from what should turn out to be a very productive recruiting weekend for Venables and company.
