OU-Missouri quick-hitters: Isaiah Sategna wakes up crowd, Sooners prevail

OU head coach Brent Venables has always been quick to point out how every play matters. Sometimes it’s the ones you see. Other times, there are some hidden plays that impact things.
Well, everybody knows what happened in the second quarter for OU and Missouri. Wide receiver Isaiah Sategna turned the game around with one play.
One play, 87 yards, and just like that? The Sooners continue to make their push toward the College Football Playoff with a 17-6 victory against visiting No. 22 Missouri on Saturday afternoon.
Your quick-hit recap.
Sategna is fast, like really fast
Missouri was up 3-0 in the second quarter, and OU was backed up for a third-and-seven at its 13 yard line.
As soon as Sategna caught the ball, you knew he was gone. Like really gone. Sategna woke up all the OU fans in attendance with the 87-yard touchdown. The game took a turn in OU’s favor the rest of the way.
Once Sategna turned that corner, he was gone. Nice placement by quarterback John Mateer and let Sategna do the rest.
Defense stands tall
It wasn’t just the offense that felt different after that play. The defense, initially, was gashed by Missouri. No big plays or anything like that. But the Tigers used the first 8:23 of the game for a field goal.

And then the defense came to play. Tackles for loss, sacks, turnovers. That is the OU recipe. Jacobe Johnson came up huge with an interception in the third quarter. Taylor Wein continued his dominant play during the season.
Missouri star running back Ahmad Hardy was kept in check. He kept fighting, but there was nothing there for him all afternoon.
And Eli Bowen closed it out with an interception on the final drive.
Robinson guts it out
There is zero question that running back Xavier Robinson is banged up. He got hit a bunch Saturday and was hobbling.
But he is not going to go away.
It wasn’t always impressive, but he kept falling forward. As a runner, as a receiver, Robinson kept fighting for every last yard, 12 carries for 42 yards.
Robinson led the team with four receptions, even if it was for just 16 yards.
Up next
One more game. No. 8 OU (9-2 overall, 5-2 SEC) welcomes LSU to Owen Field at 2:30 p.m. next Saturday. One more statement to make. You have to believe if OU can come out victorious, it is indeed College Football Playoff Bound.
