OU QB John Mateer not listed in final availability report, will play; time for the Red River Rivalry

No dramatic last-minute changes with OU quarterback John Mateer. Probable on the SEC availability report Thursday and Friday. This time around? Mateer not even in the report. He’s going to play, as the final availability report was released just now Saturday afternoon, 90 minutes before kickoff.
Just 17 days removed from right thumb surgery, Mateer is apparently going to give it a go against Texas in the Red River Rivalry.
Mateer missed last week’s victory against Kent State. His status has been the No. 1 question heading into the week.
A week that actually saw a lot of good news across the board. Texas will have wide receiver Parker Livingstone and defensive back Malik Muhammad available.
Reports suggest Mateer will attempt to give it a go. From there? Could become about how he feels, the pain tolerance. If it starts looking bad, OU could come back with Michael Hawkins Jr.

The sophomore started last week’s game and accounted for four touchdowns. He is also not a stranger to facing Texas. Hawkins, as a true freshman, started in this game last season. A game dominated by Texas, even more than the 34-3 score would indicate.
OU wide receiver Keontez Lewis, after an incredibly scary moment last week, is a game-time decision. It seems crazy to believe he could play, but OU coaches praised the way Lewis responded after being carted off on a stretcher last week.
No more talking. Seriously. It’s time. Time for the Cotton Bowl to take center stage for college football. Time for the Red River Rivalry, 2:30 p.m. ABC (2:45 approximate kick).
