OK, OU softball isn’t back, like actually back, as in the regular season. But as the focus is on football in October and basketball getting rolling, softball joins in on the fun, too.

It is time for fall ball in Norman. And this year feels like a fantastic mix of newcomers, freshmen to go with a returning nucleus that had OU on the doorstep of an unprecedented fifth straight national championship.

Instead, OU was ousted by Texas Tech in the semifinals. You wanted to give the Sooners some motivation? OK, mission accomplished for Patty Gasso and company.

The initial Battle Series gets it all started 6:30 p.m. Friday. The next month is going to feature seven events, with six being at Love’s Field and five being the intrasquad Battle Series contests.

OU softball cleaned up in September on the recruiting trail. One elite commitment after another for the 2027 class. And the incoming class? Was ranked No. 1 overall in the country. This train is not slowing down anytime soon.

Time to get to know some new names and be reintroduced to some you’re already familiar with.

Coming back…

Oklahoma returns 13 players from its 2025 team, including 2025 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Americans Ella Parker (First Team), Kasidi Pickering (First Team) and Gabbie Garcia (Second Team). Senior Ailana Agbayani also returns after earning the second Rawlings Gold Glove by a Sooner in program history a year ago.

OU went 52-9 last year, winning the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Regular Season Championship as well as the SEC Tournament Title in its first year in the league. OU swept the 2025 Norman Regional and Super Regional before bowing out following its ninth-consecutive Women’s College World Series Semifinal appearance.

The Oklahoma bats set the NCAA Division I record by surpassing 100 home runs for the sixth straight season, finishing with 121 to place second in the nation. The Sooners also finished second in the country in on-base percentage (.447) and third in slugging percentage (.629).
