This has been the week for 2027 softball commitments, with OU waiting in the wings. Waiting and waiting for the ‘Go Boomer.’

Well, head coach Patty Gasso let one out Thursday afternoon. It will not get much bigger than catcher Goose Hutchens announcing her commitment to OU.

Hutchens is the No. 2 overall ranked recruit for the class, according to Softball America. And a great example of Gasso being able to keep the best in Oklahoma at Oklahoma.

A star at Wagoner (Okla.) High, Hutchens was recruited by a who’s who across the country. Hutchens made her official visit to OU last weekend.

More visits were expected for Hutchens. Nobody expected this recruitment to be over this easily, this suddenly.

But Hutchens grew up dreaming about being a Sooner. The quicker she made the announcement, the quicker that could happen.

OU is on the board for the 2027 class in another statement-making commitment from Gasso. You want a face for the class? Hutchens will absolutely be that and then some.

When one comes, perhaps the others are about to as well?

Softball America says…

Hutchens, who hails from Wagoner, Oklahoma, primarily plays catcher and third base as she has become a star for Iowa Premier 18U National-Dickel team. She is one of the flat-out purest hitters in the country. Her consistent bat to ball skills combined with power to all fields sets her apart from others. She has an incredible approach to each at bat, can make adjustments pitch to pitch, and can play multiple positions on defense. With an elite arm behind the dish, she is tough to run on with any success. Hutchens is one of the most well-rounded players in the class and has the ability to make an immediate impact in the middle of the lineup.
