OU softball pitcher Sophia Bordi gives status update for 2026

One reason OU softball wasn’t nearly as active in the transfer portal this time around was because of what is returning.
Head coach Patty Gasso wanted to make sure she didn’t rock the boat from a great freshmen class and a great recruiting class that is about to arrive.
Included in that sounds like it might be Sophia Bordi. One of the top-ranked pitchers in the class, Bordi reclassified to join OU for this season. But it didn’t last.
“Well, she’s not here on campus,” Gasso told SoonerScoop last month. “She went back home. And that’s something that I don’t have the privilege to talk about. It’s more of a personal situation. So she did not finish the season out with us.”
There has been a ton of speculation about Bordi’s status for the 2026 season. Perhaps she gave a little insight recently.
Bordi posted something on social media late Sunday night. The Bible verse Matthew 11:28, with a photo of Bordi in an OU uniform.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest,” is what the verse says.
All OU added in the transfer portal was one player. A good player, for sure, but just one. Former LSU pitcher Sydney Berzon committed to OU last week.
The softball portal window closes Monday. But as we all know, that doesn’t mean there won’t be stuff trickling down in the days to come. The paperwork just has to be filed Monday. Visits and commitments can happen whenever.
First glance? All signs point toward an OU and Texas Tech collision course. The Sooners with their development. And Tech because the Red Raiders dominated the portal, adding one elite player after another.
Not even two weeks removed from Texas winning its first national championship, and everyone is excited about what 2026 is going to be like.
