OU softball pitcher Sophia Bordi to enter transfer portal
OU softball pitcher Sophia Bordi ended the speculation Friday afternoon, officially announcing her intentions to enter the transfer portal.
Bordi reclassified and arrived in Norman last spring but went back home before the 2025 season was completed.
“After much thought and discussion, I have made the decision to enter the transfer portal,” said Bordi on social media. “I want to say thank you to the people close to me in Oklahoma, and the Sooner fans who have continued to support me and show me love throughout my journey thus far. I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given and the time I’ve spent at OU.
“This wasn’t an easy decision to make, but sometimes things have to change in order to try and find that little kid in yourself who’s yearned for as long as you can remember, to be living in the blessings that you’re currently in. To find that spark again.
“I’m excited to see where my journey takes me and what new challenges and opportunities will open up to me. God has a plan for me #AGTG.”

Bordi was expected to be a huge part of the OU plan going forward. But it became apparent that it might not happen when head coach Patty Gasso let everybody know Bordi had decided to take a break and go home.
“Well, she’s not here on campus,” Gasso told SoonerScoop in May. “She went back home. And that’s something that I don’t have the privilege to talk about. It’s more of a personal situation. So she did not finish the season out with us.”
Bordi was never officially gone from the program. However, she wasn’t included in the Fall Ball roster and did not see one appearance during the fall ball season. Eventually, something had to work itself out and come to a conclusion. That happened Friday.
OU is absolutely still loaded heading into the 2026 season, but the expectations were so high for Bordi once upon a time. Bordi was a five-star pitcher ranked No. 12 overall for the 2025 class.
