PHILADELPHIA — No. 13 OU (3-0) dominated Temple (2-1) on Saturday, beating the Owls 42-3.

The Sooners jumped on the Owls early, taking a commanding 28-3 into halftime. And they put it away in the second half with some nice running back quarterback John Mateer and running back Tory Blaylock. OU outgained Temple 515 to 104 in total yardage.

Here is how it all went down on Saturday for Oklahoma.

OU vs Temple game recap

  • Defining moment: The opening drive. After the defense forced a three-and-out, the Sooners marched down the field on a 10-play, 67-yard touchdown drive. It included OU converting a third and 19 on a 21-yard reception by tight end Jaren Kank.
  • MVP: RB Tory Blaylock. The true freshman running back was spectacular for the Sooners. He rushed for 100 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries. Blaylock is the first running back to total over 100 yards rushing since Xavier Robinson ran for 107 yards against Alabama last season. As a team, OU ran for 228 yards.
  • Stat to know: Quarterback John Mateer has now passed and rushed for a touchdown in nine consecutive games, dating back to his time at Washington State. On Saturday, Mateer was 20-of-34 with 282 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He also ran seven times, 63 yards and one touchdown, which was a 51-yard scamper.
  • Injuries: Wide receiver Keontez Lewis exited the game in the second quarter after taking a big hit on a ball that was intercepted. Lewis was down the field for some time before walking off under his own power. He did not return to the game. OU was also without starting cornerback Gentry Williams, who injured his groin last week against Michigan.
  • Developing story: OU star pass rusher R Mason Thomas was called for targeting in the third quarter. Thomas was ejected from the game and will miss the first half of next week’s game against Auburn. Oklahoma plans to appeal the suspension.
  • Up Next: The Sooners will face No. 24 Auburn on Saturday in Norman at 2:30 p.m. CT on ABC. The Tigers are led by former OU quarterback Jackson Arnold. It be OU’s first conference game of the season.
