OU quarterback John Mateer was listed as questionable in Wednesday’s SEC availability report.

Mateer missed this past Saturday’s game against Kent State after having surgery on his right throwing hand during the bye week. His availability is up in the air for the Texas game on Saturday.

“He’s doing his normal protocol. He’s done zero good on good work,” coach Brent Venables said on Tuesday. “I don’t know anything about the injury. I’m just going to cut you off. I don’t know anything about the injury. So when they tell me he’s available, I’ll let y’all know.”

When asked about Mateer’s aggression to return quickly, Venables again said he didn’t know the timetable for his return.

“I just lean on the doctors. I’m not an expert in any of it. That’s literally the extent of it,” Venables said of Mateer. “John is doing no good-on-good work. So, it’s Michael (Hawkins) and Whitt (Newbauer) right now. If something changes, I’ll let you know. But I think if you’re gonna play, you’ve gotta do good on good, right? Throw some skelly. Hand the ball off. Play on third downs.”

As for the rest of the availability report for the Sooners, it’s listed below.

  • QB John Mateer: Questionable
  • WR Keontez Lewis: Questionable
  • OL Logan Howland: Doubtful
  • OL Troy Everett: Out
  • OL Jacob Sexton: Out
  • OL Jake Taylor: Out
