OU wide receiver Deion Burks is indeed coming back

All it took was once social media post for OU fans to feel just a little bit better about themselves. And that came from wide receiver Deion Burks.
Will he stay? Will he go? Transfer, NFL? Nope, Burks is going to be a Sooner for one more season. Burks announced Saturday evening he will indeed return to OU for the 2025 year.
Score one for head coach Brent Venables and company.
The star wideout decided to announce his return to Norman on Saturday night, with a hilarious video that he made when he spoke with his head coach, Brent Venables. Burks wore a shirt and started talking like he was going to be leaving Oklahoma, but then he unzipped his jacket and had his jersey on underneath.
Before going down with his injury, Burks hauled in 31 catches for 245 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Quarterback Jackson Arnold has moved onto Auburn in the transfer portal. They had excellent chemistry that we saw in the spring of 2024. We’ll have to see if Burks can find that same chemistry with whoever the starting quarterback is for the Sooners moving forward.

Burks transferred to Oklahoma this offseason after three years at Purdue. He turned in his best season as a Boilermaker in 2023 when he totaled 629 receiving yards and seven touchdowns as a junior. After entering the transfer portal, he came in as the No. 107 overall player and No. 21-ranked wide receiver in the On3 Industry Transfer Rankings, making him one of the biggest additions for Brent Venables and Co.
It was a rough week for OU in the wide receiver department. But perhaps knowing Burks and Jayden Gibson are the foundation? That’s not a bad start. OU will continue to be incredibly aggressive in the transfer portal, needing multiple receivers to bolster the 2025 room.
