Sherrone Moore is still expected to make the trip to Norman in 2025.

It was reported by ESPN on Monday that the second-year Michigan head coach he will serve a “self-imposed” suspension for Michigan’s Week 3 and Week 4 games. The punishment stems from the advanced scouting and sign-stealing case, in which Moore allegedly deleted a thread of 52 text messages with Connor Stalions, a former Michigan staffer at the heart of Michigan’s alleged sign-stealing scheme.

The ESPN report also notes that Moore could receive more penalties related to recruiting violations.

This is noteworthy to OU for a couple of reasons. The first is that Moore will coach against the Sooners in Week 2 next season. Moore will instead miss games against Central Michigan and Nebraska.

And it makes sense that Moore wouldn’t want to miss this game on Sept. 6. Not just because it’s a big game for both teams. But because Moore is a graduate of OU. He played for the Sooners from 2006 to 2007, starting 14 games at offensive guard. Moore graduated from Oklahoma in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in communications.

Moore has risen quickly in the coaching ranks. He started his career at Louisville as a GA and was the tight ends coach at Central Michigan from 2014 to 2017. He joined the Michigan staff in 2018 and was promoted to head coach last season after winning the national title in 2023-24, in which he was the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach.

The game time for OU and Michigan has yet to be announced.
