The first OU Battle Series is in the books for OU softball. A lot to like, a lot to work on, good night of work for head coach Patty Gasso and company Friday at Love’s Field.

OU returns for fall ball next week, heading to East Texas A&M on Tuesday. After that? Every other fall ball event will be at Love’s Field and at 6:30 p.m.

Battle Series Highlights

*Really nice night for Riley Zache. She began with a double and a home run. The home run? Off her sister, freshman pitcher Berkley Zache.

*Four home runs on the evening. Zache, Sydney Barker, Kendall Wells and Gabbie Garcia all had round-trippers. Garcia’s was a two-run shot, rest were solo bombs.

*Not bad initial impressions from transfer pitchers Sydney Berzon (LSU) and Miali Guachino (Ole Miss). Every single pitcher threw the equivalent of three innings. Berzon allowed three hits, one run with one walk and one strikeout. Guachino allowed a hit, a run with four strikeouts and one walk.

The only pitcher to not allow a run? Senior Kierston Deal. Just one hit in her three frames of work.

*Nobody had more hits than Ailana Agbayani and Ella Parker. Parker hit 3-for-5 with an RBI, a double and a stolen base. Agbayani was 3-for-6 from the plate. Agbayani actually hit a walk-off two-run double to send everybody home.

*And there were a lot of people in attendance. A crowd of 2,351 at Love’s Field to take in the first of six Battle Series events in the next month.

*The two-hit club? Kasidi Pickering, Barker, Zache, Garcia and Wells.
