Oklahoma Sooners quarterback John Mateer (10) celebrates with fans after a college football game between the University of Oklahoma Sooners (OU) and the University of Michigan Wolverines at Gaylord Family Ð Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman, Okla., Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025. Oklahoma won 24-13.

OU is squarely in the College Football Playoff hunt. The Sooners ranked 12th in the first CFP rankings of the season. That means they have some work to do to make the 12-team bracket. Oklahoma does control its own destiny, though. If it wins out, not only will it make the playoffs, OU will be hosting a playoff game.
