Sooners Have Questions About Offense

Oklahoma’s 4-0 start to the season is what many Sooners fans expected but the way it’s happened may not be. Though Oklahoma’s offense has dropped a couple of massive numbers, modest efforts against SMU and Cincinnati leaves room for concern. Meanwhile Oklahoma’s defense is starting to look like a group that is gaining momentum and playing outstanding football.
In this week’s Board CHAT we take a look at some of the questions that Oklahoma fans most want to know.
Could Sooners or Texas Get Caught Looking to RRR?
I think you’ve GOT to wonder a bit about that but I think this is where Brent Venables‘s style does well. It minimizes ‘this week is more important than next week’. I think he knows you don’t have to push kids to be ready for Texas. But make sure they are sharp for the ISUs etc. I also think after last year there’s little reason to think the Sooners are going to overlook anyone.
“Guys you lost 7 games last year, let’s not forget that.”
If Texas is looking past Kansas, they’ll have their hands full.
Is OU’s RB Situation Just About No One Taking the Reins?
I just don’t know how OU didn’t get those guys more looks and touches out of conference, I think that’s a mistake the Sooners will regret as they go. Tawee Walker isn’t going to be your leading rusher in a win over Texas/Big12 Championship game/playoff/etc. He’s limited, he just is.
That doesn’t mean he can’t have a role or be useful – I’D LOVE OU to use him in some two-back sets. But a guy that gets 20 carries against Texas? Texas is going to count on their DL enough to win to bottle him up and even if he gets out…he can’t punish them for 30-40 yards.
It’ll be 12-15 before their back seven close him down.
These are just some of the dozens of questions answered in this week’s BOARD CHAT.
