SoonerScoop podcast: Can OU put it all back together?

This was a swing game for OU back in the summer. Absolutely nothing has changed as we get to Nov. 1. The OU season can one way or another after the trip to Neyland Stadium this weekend.
Tennessee, for the most part, is in the same predicament. Two programs who are dreaming of big things in 2025 but one more loss almost dashes them all.
For OU, it’s about getting that offense going again. That begins with quarterback John Mateer, obviously, coming off a puzzling performance in the loss to Ole Miss.
But the defense had its fair share of troubles, too, allowing a season-high 431 yards and dropping from No. 1 to No. 6 in total defense.

A lot on the line. First trip to Knoxville since that memorable 2015 encounter. Let’s break it all down. Time for the Unofficial 40 podcast from SoonerScoop.
Plus, success or lack of it doesn’t always mean anything on the recruiting trail. Time to check back in and see what OU has cooking with the 2026 and 2027 classes. Hint: It’s good.
Murdock summary:
It’s been a full week of trying to figure out what is wrong with John Mateer and Oklahoma’s offense. We started out with Saturday frustrations and worked our way through players and coaches to try and find answers as to what is really happening with Mateer and the OU passing game. With a road battle with Tennessee looming, the Sooners have to get better. And the mistakes have to disappear quickly if this team is going to do anything in these next two road trips. Josh is here to talk about the recent commitment of Jahsiear Rogers, the former Penn State commitment, and some other nuggets out on the recruiting trail. Eddie gets a little basketball talk in and we talk a little about the madness all over the world of college football with mass firings happening all over. Could Venables be joining that list if things go a certain way down the stretch? It’s this week’s edition of the Unofficial 40!
All that and all the banter you’ve come to expect from the Unofficial 40 podcast from SoonerScoop.
