SoonerScoop podcast: The details of how OU, John Mateer came together

You can stop hitting refresh, OU fans. Well, you still can, but the anxious days of early in the week are officially gone.
OU has its offensive coordinator, quarterbacks coach and now its quarterback. Former Washington State quarterback John Mateer made his choice Wednesday night, picking OU.
It might have seemed like an open-and-shut case with everything pointing toward OU, but it was a battle. A tussle for Brent Venables and staff and NIL collective 1Oklahoma.
Enough jibber jabbing, time for the Unofficial 40 podcast from SoonerScoop to break it all down. How did this come together?
Baker still being Baker
Mateer is a Sooner, and you might have Baker Mayfield to thank for that. Sounds a bit nuts, but OU pulled in the big guns for this one.
Mayfield has been all about OU, no matter what. And that was evident again Wednesday. It was Mayfield who helped solidify everything.
We know Miami was coming. And here came North Carolina and Bill Belichick… and Tom Brady? Give it a listen for all the details.

All is well that ends well, but Wednesday was pretty intense.
Now what?
Valid question. The celebration is still going for OU with Mateer, rightfully so. But the Sooners still have more pieces to add.
Need to bring home more receivers, after notching two earlier Wednesday. An offensive lineman or two would be nice.
And what about tight end? How is that position shaking out right now? The uncertainty still feels like it’s there with Joe Jon Finley in the spot when you don’t know if he will be.
Wednesday was the type of day all OU fans needed. Now, though? Still have to fill in the rest of the gaps to have Team 131 ready.
All that and all the banter you’ve come to expect from the Unofficial 40 podcast from SoonerScoop.
