SoonerScoop podcast: OU coaches luncheon offers final glimpse before camp

Getting closer and closer to OU preseason camp. Now less than a week away from when the Sooners will hit the practice fields.

Thursday offered a refreshing change of pace. As much as it is nice to hear from head coach Brent Venables, had some other perspectives.

It was offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle and defensive tackles coach Todd Bates joining Venables at the OU coaches luncheon Thursday afternoon.

Yes, quarterback John Mateer was mentioned. But there were a lot of other names as well. If you want to continue to buy into the hope, Thursday afternoon was the day for you.

Arbuckle and Bates rattled off names that maybe you hadn’t thought about or maybe names that you were hoping are about to make a splash.

A little something for everyone Thursday. Let’s break it all down in this week’s Unofficial 40 podcast from SoonerScoop.

From Bates saying David Stone is on the verge of a breakout season to Arbuckle saying Isaiah Sategna might be the receiver everybody trusts the most – some real, quality insight as OU camp is (finally) just around the corner.

Murdock summary:

It’s a busy day as Josh is back from vacation and Carey and Eddie spent the afternoon at the OU coaches luncheon where Brent Venables, Ben Arbuckle and Todd Bates talked some OU football to raise money for Fostering Futures. Ben Arbuckle got to talk about his receivers and the offensive line while there was plenty of praise for some key defenders by Brent Venables and Todd Bates. We also had some breaking news mid-pod as Donald Trump announced an executive order for NIL. And Josh was back from vacation to catch us up on the latest in recruiting.

All this and all the banter you’ve come to expect from the Unofficial 40 podcast from SoonerScoop.
