You know when the depth chart gets released, you’re that much closer to OU football like really being back.

And you know when a depth chart gets released, you’re trying to read between the lines for what the coaches might be saying or messages trying to be sent.

It sure felt that way for head coach Brent Venables when the first one for OU was released Sunday afternoon. Some surprises, some notable ORs, some clear-cut decisions.

But that means game week is upon us, and it’s the final Unofficial 40 podcast from SoonerScoop before OU takes the field.

Examining the chart

The depth chart has been written about and analyzed. But still, you wonder what positioning of someone like David Stone means? Where is he really fitting in?

And if Jayden Jackson is truly a starting defensive tackle as a true freshman, what does that mean for him and for the group?

There will be other weeks where you have to take a deep dive into the opponent, but you should feel pretty confident that Temple is not one of them.

So, we’re all sort of watching OU and how it responds to everything Friday evening. You want to see the pass rush be more effective. Want to watch the offensive line dominate.

And the initial start in Norman for one Jackson Arnold. Handling the moment and getting Team 130 off to a great start.

You’ve been on the ride with us all through preseason camp. It’s just about here. One last preview before we can all find out things together.

Week 0 had some fireworks and let you know 2024 could be a wild ride. But nobody expects that type of drama at all for OU, at least not yet.
