OU-Texas week has enough insanity on its own. You add in some quarterback drama, and this week has been absolute bonkers.

And we’re not done yet. Not even close. We now know the initial designation from OU quarterback John Mateer is questionable for the availability report.

Let the chaos continue. The Mateer question is overshadowing what is a do-or-die type of situation coming this weekend for Texas in the Red River Rivalry. The Longhorns are a disappointing 3-2 headed to Dallas.

Head coach Brent Venables is providing zero clarity on the situation, much to the surprise of nobody. That won’t change, either, the rest of this week.

We’re almost to Dallas. Almost. But first let’s break it all down. It’s time for the Unofficial 40 podcast from SoonerScoop, Red River Rivalry preview edition.

Plus? Don’t look now, but OU continues to have some very positive signs on the recruiting trail.

Murdock summary:

We’re halfway through the week and the John Mateer news continues to confuse. Indoor practices, interesting press conference answers, good-on-good, hiding in bushes, it’s part OU-TX part media frenzy this week in Norman. The guys all get together to try and make sense out of the nonsense while also trying to figure out whether OU can win this game. Expect the unexpected, but we’re trying to predict off the expected. Which never seems to work out in this game. Who are some players we could see stepping up that aren’t really expected? What about the Venables/Sarkisian matchup? Is Texas doomed because of its offensive line? Or is Arch Manning ready to have his breakout moment in Dallas? Some recruiting talk as Milan Paris decommits from Iowa State. Does OU want to play in the money sandbox with Miami and Oregon to secure his services?

All that and all the banter you’ve come to expect from the Unofficial 40 podcast from SoonerScoop.
