It is October and OU is among the undefeated teams in college football. Nobody expects that to change this weekend, but there is still some intrigue.

As John Mateer continues to recover from right thumb surgery, this is the weekend for Michael Hawkins Jr. to show what he can do. It might be the only one, for all we know, and we’ll see the type of improvement he has made since being a true freshman.

OU has risen up the ranks to No. 5 in the country. Are the Sooners legit? Hmm, still another week before we truly find out.

But after a bye week and watching some college football all day Saturday, let’s come back and revisit everything. It’s time for the Unofficial 40 podcast from SoonerScoop.

Oh, and the good news for OU on the recruiting trail? That is not slowing down at all. Not one bit, as OU continues to build and build that momentum on the road.

Murdock summary

Oklahoma football comes off their bye week without their starting quarterback as John Mateer had surgery last week. But that doesn’t mean we’re not excited to see what Michael Hawkins Jr., can do in his absence. Let’s face it, Kent State is not the story this week. It’s Texas. At least for the fans. We’re also looking forward to Javonnie Gibson’s first game as a Sooner after working to make it all the way back from a broken leg suffered last spring. Can OU run the ball against what will probably be their worst opponent of the season?

And Josh is here to talk some recruiting as the Sooners appear to be on the verge of getting another commitment soon. And the gang goes around college football where we see how everyone views Oklahoma nationally right now and what teams might deserve a little skepticism. Could OU have some skeptics in the studio? Find out more on this week’s edition of the Unofficial 40.

All that and all the banter you’ve come to expect from the Unofficial 40 podcast from SoonerScoop.
