In a week full of upsets, you knew you didn’t have to worry about OU. The Sooners were going to handle their business, no matter what.

And OU did in a 44-0 victory against visiting Kent State. Now the question becomes if Michael Hawkins Jr. is indeed the quarterback for OU against Texas, what does that mean? What will, could that look like?

Hawkins had some moments, for sure, but he also missed some throws and some moments. He accounted for four touchdowns in his first start of the 2025 season.

Is John Mateer ready to return? We’ll be playing that game all week long. But it’s here. The non-conference is wrapped up.

It’s time for OU-Texas week. Let’s talk Red River Rivalry and take a look back at the shutout. It’s time for the Eskridge Lexus Postgame Podcast from SoonerScoop.

Murdock summary:

It was as easy as everyone thought it would be. By the time the fourth quarter rolled around, this game was over. In the end, the Sooners finish off their non-conference slate with a 44-0 win over Kent State. But all eyes were on Michael Hawkins Jr. The player who might have to start against Texas if John Mateer needs more time to recover from his thumb injury. What did the gang think about what they saw from Hawkins Saturday afternoon? And we got to see some flashes out of Jaydn Ott and Danny Okoye. That’s what we wanted to see. Javonnie Gibson got his first snaps as a Sooner and Eli Bowen made it back in the secondary. But we all know what’s ahead. It’s Texas. So once again, how do we feel about facing a team that just lost to Florida before the OU game finished?

All that and all the banter you’ve come to expect from the Eskridge Lexus Postgame Podcast from SoonerScoop.
