Tory Blaylock named SEC Freshman of the Week

OU true freshman running back Tory Blaylock was named the SEC Freshman of the Week on Monday after his performance against Temple.
Blaylock rushed for 100 yards and two touchdowns on 14 attempts on Saturday, helping the Sooners beat Temple 42-3. He was the first running back to rush for 100 yards or more since Xavier Robinson had 107 versus Alabama last season.
“With the more preparation I’m doing, as well, I feel like every game I’m kind of getting under my feet,” Blaylock said after the game. “As a freshman and getting out there, you’re a little nervous and shaky at first but with more games under my belt, obviously I’m gonna get more comfortable.”
Through three games, Blaylock has rushed for 166 yards and three touchdowns, averaging 5.4 yards per carry. The true freshman has clearly been Oklahoma’s best running back and someone the coaching staff trusts.

“He’s been playing really well. He’s been preparing really well,” offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle said. “The thing about him today is he didn’t play with no hesitancy, didn’t flinch at all. Whenever he saw something, he did it, he took it. really proud of the way he played, excited for the way he played.
“Again, he’s been here for the last nine months. He’s not a true freshman. His mindset, the way he shows up every day in the building and at practice and how he understands everything the offense asks. He’s not a true freshman. He’s a stud. He prepares like a stud. I do, I trust Tory Blaylock.”
Blaylock is sure to be a big part of this OU team moving forward.
“Just a tough guy. Not 100% healthy. And he loves to compete,” coach Brent Venables said. “We’ve been bragging on him since way back in the spring. He led in the spring with the most explosive plays. He runs through trash, he’s got great speed. He’s got on the edge. You saw that, his burst. He’s got really good patience and pace to him, too, as a running back. Runs well behind his pads and runs through a lot of arm tackles.”
