Where OU football ranks in latest College Football Playoff rankings

OU ranked No. 8 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings, which were released on Tuesday night.
The Sooners are fresh off an upset win over Alabama in Tuscaloosa. That’s why they’ve made a jump in the rankings and into the 12-team playoff. If the season ended today, not only would Oklahoma be in the playoffs, it would be hosting a playoff game.
OU has one of the most impressive resumes in college football this season. The Sooners have three ranked wins over No. 18 Michigan, No. 20 Tennessee and No. 10 Alabama, and only two ranked losses to Ole Miss and Texas. But they still have work to do with No. 22 Missouri and LSU coming to Norman to finish the season.
On Tuesday, coach Brent Venables said that his team’s focus is not on the playoffs. Instead, it’s on finishing the regular season.

“We don’t have a no-playoff policy in our building,” Venables said. “That’s not something that leads the topic of conversation. My job is not to be naive, but try to protect an environment, tryto help them think the right way and be committed to a process that is void of distractions and things that can work against you. But like I said, I’ve been doing this a long time and know that you’re not going to be able to completely and totally — you guys lead off a lot of conversations and try to take them down that road.”
For Venables and the Sooners, they know they still have a lot to prove before getting into the playoff.
“We’ve got a lot of work to do. That is so far away, in my opinion,” Venables said. “Maybe in a few more weeks, you’re talking about that. We’ve got a lot of work to do. And a lot of challenges sitting in front of us. That’s really kind of the conversation that takes place. There’s a certain level of maturity to look at it the right way. And we have enough good, older mature leaders that kind of set the tone every day for that.”
