Former Ole Miss star wide receiver DK Metcalf is in a new place, starting his first season with the Pittsburgh Steelers and is doing so with one of the more popular, and polarizing, quarterbacks in the NFL.

Aaron Rodgers signed with the Steelers last month as the NFL veteran adds another stop in his 20-year career. Turns out both Rodgers and Metcalf will be adjusting together as roommates for preseason training camp, sharing the same suite.

A surprise to Metcalf, who noted while talking to the media after Thursday’s practice he thought he might get a solo suite, but one he is also seeing the positives in sharing living space with Rodgers.

“We can talk about stuff that we see the same on the field. Continue conversations that we may not get to talk about in the meeting room,” Metcalf said. “He gets to listen to a lot of my music taste or he may yell at the video games sometimes. But, it’s just going to be fun having him across the hall from me.”

The fun did not start immediately for Rodgers and Metcalf during Thursday’s opening practice of camp. Rodgers first pass attempt to Metcalf resulted in a interception for the Steelers defense.

“First day out here in a team setting, so having a pass rush is a lot different than throwing on air,” Matcalf said. “First day. Mistakes are going to happen. He’s going to throw a lot of touchdowns, throw some picks. Hopefully not many but that’s still the game that we play.”

There might be an odd couple vibe between Metcalf and Rodgers, but nothing that has the former Rebels receiver concerned in anyway.

Learning his quarterback was going to be bunking up with him was in an unorthodox manner, though.

“He knocked on my door. I thought it was the front door but it was actually my bathroom door, because we share a same bathroom,” Metcalf said. “He was like, ‘Aw, man. I was hoping it was you.’ I was like, ‘Uh, I did not think I was going to have a roommate but glad to see you too, man.’ It was good to see his face and know that we could continue conversations outside the meeting room.”

Metcalf was part of a trade between the Steelers and Seattle Seahawks in the offseason. He was traded for a 2025 second-round draft pick and also signed a five-year, $150 million contract extension with the Steelers.
