Oklahoma State transfer QB Maealiuaki Smith signs with Ole Miss

Oklahoma State transfer quarterback Maealiuaki Smith is heading to Ole Miss via the NCAA transfer portal, On3’s Pete Nakos learned on Tuesday. He’s committed to join the Rebels, adding another depth piece to the quarterback room for Lane Kiffin.
The Rebels also added Ferris State quarterback Trinidad Chambliss to the room this spring transfer portal window while Louisville transfer quarterback Pierce Clarkson left the program after one semester. Kiffin & Co. wanted a veteran backup to new starting quarterback Austin Simmons and now added two pieces this window to the room.
Smith started two games last season for the Cowboys. During his limited action at Oklahoma State, he went 44-of-74 passing for 489 yards, tossing two touchdowns and four interceptions. Additionally, he ran for a score.
Smith had a noteworthy game in a loss against Texas Tech last fall, which could’ve caught the eye of Kiffin. He threw for 316 yards and two touchdowns against the Red Raiders, while also throwing one pick. He ran for another touchdown in the contest, as well.

As a recruit, Smith played high school football at Junipero Serra (Sacramento, CA), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 523 overall recruit in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
For Chambliss, he was a second-team All-American in 2024, throwing for 2,925 yards and 26 touchdowns. He also rushed for 1,019 yards and 25 touchdowns. He adds a dual-threat element for Ole Miss’ quarterbacks.
