Ole Miss basketball's Malique Ewin involved in fatal auto 'incident'
The University of Mississippi released an update on Tuesday of a auto accident that occurred earlier this month that involved an Ole Miss student and resulted in the death of a campus visitor.
The Ole Miss Spirit can confirm through sources that the unnamed student involved is Ole Miss men’s basketball player Malique Ewin.
On Jan. 13 a one-car motor vehicle accident took place. The victim sustained severe injuries and was taken by helicopter to a Memphis hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
University of Mississippi Police Department is still investigating the incident.
“Our thoughts and condolences are with the victim’s family and loved ones during this difficult time,” read a statement put out by the university.
The Spirit has also learned through sources that Ewin is still a member of the basketball team and is not expected to face any criminal charges.

Ewin has been unavailable for the last three games due to what Ole Miss head coach Kermit Davis noted as “personal reasons.”
The freshman has played in 14 games this season and averaged 6.1 minutes per game. He was averaging 1.4 points and 1.1 rebounds per game.
The university’s full statement about the incident reads: “”The University of Mississippi Police Department is investigating a one-car motor vehicle incident that occurred Jan. 13 involving a student that resulted in the death of a visitor to campus.
