Ole Miss flips Illinois edge Carmelow Reed from Wisconsin: 'I never wanted to leave'

Ole Miss landed a key target on Monday as the Rebels flipped 2026 Richton Park (Ill.) Rich Township three-star EDGE Carmelow Reed from Wisconsin.
He’s fresh off an official visit where the SEC program wowed him. The trip made it clear that he needed to be a Rebel.
“The people around the city absolutely love the school and the players playing for the school so that was good,” Reed told On3. “The staff was great, too. Like everybody was just awesome. I’m so excited about this.
“I loved the Ole Miss visit. The love I was being shown from everyone around was great and something I want to be a part of!”
Defensive line coach Randall Joyner impressed Reed in a big way on his visit. Joyner’s been recruiting him since the spring when the Rebels offered him.

“He was a really good coach,” Reed said. “He breaks down the game of football to where if you’re a bystander you’ll understand it and he’s really energetic.”
From Joyner to assistants like Jake Schoonover to defensive coordinator Pete Golding and beyond, the Ole Miss staff just made him feel at home.
“Coach Schooner, coach Golding, and a few others, but everybody was great. I really loved being around them and I never wanted to leave. That’s why I flipped my commitment from Wisconsin to Ole Miss.”
As a junior, he logged 33 tackles and five sacks. His intriguing frame makes him someone that can move around the defensive line as he packs weight on. Reed is the No. 51 EDGE and No. 14 player in Illinois, according to On3’s 2026 rankings.
