The hay is in the barn for the regular season and now the conference tournaments and march to the NCAA Tournament begins next week.

For Ole Miss and 11 other teams that means heading to Hoover, Ala. for the 2022 SEC Tournament and the Rebels now know who their first obstacle to earning a NCAA Tourney bid will be.

Vanderbilt tied with Ole Miss for eighth in the SEC with a 14-16 record but the Commodores get the nod due to tiebreakers rules.

It really does not matter as they will play each other on Tuesday in the third single elimination game (No. 8 – 9 seed) of the day at approximately 4:30 p.m. CT.

Winning that game is key for Ole Miss as it could easily be their final game of the season if the NCAA Tournament selection committee does not like the Rebels resume up to that point.

If Ole Miss escapes the single elimination portion of the bracket they automatically earn at least two more games next week. Unfortunately the first will be against No. 1 seed Tennessee in the same time as Tuesday’s game.

Getting a win over Vanderbilt will matter more than whatever Ole Miss does against the Volunteers as that is a good RPI game either way in the second round. The Rebels are currently sitting No. 38 in the RPI after Saturday’s loss to Texas A&M.

The rest of the SEC Tournament’s first round bracket looks like this:

No. 6 Georgia vs. No. 11 Alabama – 9:30 a.m. CT

No. 7 Florida vs. No. 10 South Carolina – TBD

No. 8 Vanderbilt vs. No. 9 Ole Miss – 4:30 p.m. CT

No. 5 Auburn vs. No. 12 Kentucky – TBD

Tennessee, Texas A&M, Arkansas and LSU earned the four byes and are automatically into the double elimination portion of the SEC Tournament.

All games will air on SEC Network.
