Jackson Ross isn’t a captain for the Ole Miss baseball team.

But he might as well be with the way he’s carried a resurgent Rebel offense over a three-game winning streak.

Ross hit his fifth home run in his last four games to lead Ole Miss to a 12-6 win over Little Rock on Tuesday. The Rebel have scored 49 runs over their last 20 innings. Ole Miss (5-4) next hosts Missouri State Wednesday at 4 p.m. CT.

“They call him ‘Sergeant Ross,’” Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco said. “I don’t know if that’s just because of the leadership. He’s one of the older guys (who) doesn’t say a ton, but you can see his presence. He’s got a lot of respect (from) the way he goes about his business … not only on the field, but off the field.”

Ross, for the season, is now batting .464.

He’s totaled 14 RBI.

Ross had three hits (as did Ethan Groff) against Little Rock to lead the Rebels. Ross was one of four Rebels to homer. The others were Will Furniss, Andrew Fischer and actual team captain Reagan Burford.

“Me and (Ole Miss hitting coach Mike Clement) and my dad have been working on some stuff in the cages,” Furniss said. He was finally inserted into the lineup Saturday night and has since started, and homered in, each of the last three games.

“I didn’t have the offensive fall I wanted to. Didn’t even come out of spring intrasquads hot either. Working hard (and) finally all those things coming together. Hard work translating to the game. It’s been going well.”

Right-hander Mason Morris (1-1) got his first college win in relief of Ole Miss starter Wes Mendes.

Mendes pitched three complete and gave up two runs (both earned) on two hits and two walks. He struck out five, including back-to-back punch-outs with the bases loaded in the top of the first inning.

Morris surrendered three runs (two earned) on three hits and two walks with two strikeouts over three innings. UALR starter Jack Cline (0-1) was tagged with the loss.

The included box score and highlights were provided by Ole Miss Athletics.
