The Flagship: Will Jaxson Dart be a cover athlete for EA Sports College Football?

EA Sports College Football will make its return to gaming shelves this summer after over a decade away.

All players, Ole Miss or otherwise, have the option to opt into the game — which, for the first time, allows FBS athletes to benefit from their name, image and likeness. The last iteration of the immensely popular title came out in 2013 and sold roughly 1.5 million copies.

Now-fifth-year Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin said he’d appear in the game for free if allowed. Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart was the first Rebel to publicly announce he’d be ‘in the game.’

Other confirmed Rebels include wide receivers Tre Harris and Jordan Watkins, defensive linemen JJ Pegues and Jared Ivey and safety Trey Washington.

“Everybody thinks it’s surreal,” Washington said. “It’s a great opportunity. It’s a privilege to see yourself in a video game. Imaginary world that we all grew up playing and loving to play with our friends.”

“I don’t understand why you wouldn’t want to be a part of something like that,” Watkins added. “Not every day you get a chance to play as yourself in a video game. You can create a player, but it’s better when you can download a roster or something like that and turn on the video game and play as yourself.”

Dart will likely be a headliner.

But will the third-year Ole Miss signal-caller secure a coveted spot on the cover?

Zach Berry (OMSpirit.com/On3) and Grayson Weir (Bro Bible) consider his candidacy, and that of all the other stars in college football, in this Monday (April 29, 2024) edition of ‘The Flagship,’ powered by College Corner.
